Off The Bench
Stat of the Day
As part of his punishment for perjuring himself and obstructing justice in 2003, Barry Bonds is required to pay a $4,000 fine. In 2001, the year he hit 73 home runs, Bonds made, on average, a little over $5,000 per pitch he saw as a batter.

Greg Maddux pitched 5,008.1 Major League innings. 351.1 of them were as a Padre.
He also won 18 Gold gloves. Two of them as a Padre.
On the Lowrie-Melancon Trade:
I like the trade for the Astros. Finally, they have a general manager in place who understands that the ‘Stros are not a feeder for the rest of the league and is capable of pulling off somewhat fair trades. I think the Astros actually got the best in this deal. Melancon can be good for the Red Sox, but he won’t be nearly as valuable if say Marco Scutaro gets hurt and the Sox are...
Definition of Bawse
It’s like “boss” but way, way, way cooler. If Bruce Springstein is “The Boss” or George Steinbrenner was “The Boss,” imagine a bawse!
Basically you have to do something extra extra awesome to be a Bawse.
One might consider Roy Halladay’s no hitter in the playoff as sufficient to be a bawse but its not. Dan Johnson’s 9th innning, two out,...
Read This
I don’t usually like what Jim Bowden writes (and lord knows ESPN doesn’t need the Off the Bench mini blog linking to them) but this is an interesting and good read. Five trades that should happen.

Stat of the Day
Two Stats today:
1) Ryan Braun’s ISO, a metric used to measure power (discussed here), jumped from .197 in 2010 to .265 this year. His career average is .251 so don’t get too excited
2) 80.5% of people in India are Hindu

Albert Pujols had 445 HRs and a .328 batting average as a Cardinal. The only other players to have an average at least that high and at least that many homers for one team would be Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams, and Stan Musial. Wow.

Braun is Coming, Really
It’s finals time of year so as important as the Ryan Braun analysis post is, that 6 page paper due tomorrow morning is has to be done first.

New Post On The Big Site: Dbacks get Cahill
Check out the new post on Off The Bench, Cahill Makes DBacks Serious Contenders.
Ian Stewart to the Cubs
The Cubs acquired Ian Stewart and Casey Weathers from the Rockies for Tyler Clovin and DJ LeMahieu. This could turn out to be a big deal for the North Siders and signals the official end to any Aramis Ramirez back to the Cubs talk. Why didn’t I hear about this yesterday? More at Off The Bench.
Pujols is Not Lebron
I read an ESPN article this morning trying to compare Albert Pujols’ departure from St. Louis to Lebron James’ “Decision” to leave Cleveland last summer. This is absolutely ridiculous. Pujols’ move to LA is absolutely nothing like the Lebracle. I haven’t decided if I want to dignify the idea that the two are similar with an entire post on the big site. Watch...
Albert Pujols Ranks Through the First 11 Seasons
Prince Albert just signed a $254 Million deal with the Los Angeles deal. For our version of the story, be sure to read the main site quick, reactionary post. Also, we just found the fun stat of the day. Through the first 11 years of his career, Pujols has more home runs, RBI’s and total bases than anyone in history. He could quite possibly be the best player ever and deserves to be the...
Our Mini Blog
Max and Sean have decided to add a tumblr.com site in an effort to increase cross listing on our main site. This is where you will find most of our stats of the day, or things we wanted to tweet that are a bit longer than the 140 limiting characters of Twitter. Who chose that random character amount? Anyway, hope you like what we write on here and do not be afraid to visit our main site Off The...
